Pop-up market gives students a real world business experience

Tomorrow the Business Center Nipissing Parry Sound is partnering with Northgate Shopping Center to host its Annual Summer Company pop-up market.

The event will run from 10 am to 3 pm at Center Court in the Northgate Shopping Centre.

The Business Center Nipissing Parry Sound is a not-for-profit organization that provides support for the start-up and expansion of small enterprises in the Nipissing and Parry Sound regions.

“Our Summer Company Program, funded by the province of Ontario, promotes youth entrepreneurship by providing funding of up to $3,000 to students between the ages of 15 and 29 to start up and run a business for the summer,” says Sarah White, marketing and events director.

This year, 12 young entrepreneurs were funded to operate their business ventures, which included drone marketing services, a pet portrait artist, a cotton candy cart, pool cleaning services, lakeside lawn care, and computer repair services.

“The tradeshow gives students community exposure and experience in marketing, networking, and selling their products and services,” explains White.

“We invite the public to attend free of charge. We appreciate the public’s support in helping us provide this learning experience for our young entrepreneurs.”
