Goyal seeks Japanese investment in Indian manufacturing

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is seeking to attract Japanese investment in India’s manufacturing sector, with a focus on semiconductors, electronics, aluminium, paints and coatings, and sports manufacturing. Goyal held meetings with senior executives of leading Japanese companies in Osaka, including Daiki Aluminium Chairman Takaaki Yamamoto and ROHM Co Ltd President and CEO Katsumi Azuma.
The Minister shared the development in a series of tweets, highlighting the opportunities for greater collaboration and investment in India’s expanding electronics ecosystem. Goyal met with Azuma to discuss strengthening cooperation in semiconductors and electronic components manufacturing.
India-Japan Cooperation
Goyal’s meetings with Japanese executives are part of efforts to deepen India-Japan cooperation and attract investment in key sectors. The Minister met with Nippon Paint Holdings Director Yuichiro Wakatsuki to discuss opportunities to strengthen India-Japan cooperation in the paints and coatings industry.

According to the Minister, India’s expanding manufacturing and infrastructure setting offers strong potential for greater investment and partnership. Goyal also met Mizuno Corporation Representative Director and President Akito Mizuno, with discussions centered on investment and collaboration in sports gear, sportswear, and footwear.
India is positioning itself as a major manufacturing and supply-chain hub, with a growing manufacturing base and rising domestic demand. The discussions between Goyal and Japanese executives focused on leveraging this growth to expand cooperation in various sectors.
The Minister’s visit to Japan marks the fourth day of his trip, showing the strong momentum behind the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership. Bilateral trade between India and Japan stood at $27.47 billion in FY 2025-26, with India’s imports from Japan valued at $21.43 billion and exports to Japan valued at $6.04 billion.
